5 Dangerous Chemicals in Skin Care Products

Do you know that synthetic skincare products are actually composed of a plethora of dangerous chemicals?

This might come as a piece of shocking news to you but the majority of artificial skincare brands aren't even FDA approved!

The best method to protect your skin from these potentially dangerous substances is to be aware of their presence in beauty products.

I never recommend purchasing cosmetic products that have parabens, phthalates, artificial colors, fragrances, or other risky chemicals. Why? Because these dangerous chemicals penetrate the dermal layer and destroy the natural skin barrier. The worst-case scenario? Some of these products are carcinogenic. On top of that, they trigger acne, rosacea, eczema, allergies, breakouts, and pimples.  For flawless healthy skin, it is advisable to avoid these toxic chemicals and opt for natural alternatives.

Below are some of the most harmful ingredients that you should avoid while purchasing your skincare/cosmetic products. Have a look:

1. Parabens

These dangerous chemicals are usually labeled as methyl, ethyl, and propyl preservatives in cosmetic products. Their composition resembles mineral oils and they are mostly found in moisturizers, toners, foundations, or deodorants. Once you know the toxic effects caused by parabens, you will understand why they are a no-go for healthy skin. The preservatives are linked with the hormonal imbalance of the body, and some studies have also shown a clear association of parabens with breast cancer. If you are still using any product with parabens or phthalates, it is high time that you switch to natural skincare - rosemary oil, Vit E, grapefruit extract, CBD, and Aloe Vera for safe and healthy skin.

2. Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS)

Sodium lauryl sulfates are responsible for the bubble formation in shampoos and facial cleansers. The surfactants strip off the natural protective barrier of the skin by disturbing its ph.

Although these emulsifying agents are not harmful if used in small amounts, it is better that you switch to a healthy alternative such as coconut oil and biodegradable Castile soaps.

3. Artificial fragrances

I cannot stress this enough!

Always look out for artificial aromas in your beauty products. Why? Because these fragrances are an amalgam of harmful synthetic ingredients and can prove to be extremely irritable for your skin. Moreover, aromatic products are composed of toxic chemicals that trigger allergies, rashes and cause headaches or dizziness. Opt for natural skincare that is fragrance-free and devoid of artificial colors for best results.

4. Phenoxyethanol

If you are a nursing mother or expecting a baby - please avoid nipple creams, oils, and lotions with Phenoxyethanol. They have adverse effects on the CNS of infants and are responsible for causing rashes and blisters on the skin. If ingested by the babies, these dangerous chemicals can also lead to vomiting and diarrhea.

5. Aluminum

Aluminum is the most common toxic chemical that is known to be cariogenic. It is found in deodorants and moisturizers. When absorbed into the body, it increases the risk of cancer.

For radiant, healthy, and glowing skin, avoid purchasing beauty products with the above-mentioned dangerous chemicals.
